Along with being active and maintaining a healthy weight, diet is an important tool for optimizing your health and for fighting disease. With so much information available on the Internet, it can be difficult to know what food and dietary supplements may be beneficial, what may be more hype than substance, and what may actually be harmful. The presenter will discuss the building blocks of a healthy diet, how you may need to modify your diet during treatment, and how to make changes to your current eating habits in order to fully optimize your health and well-being. The goal of this session is to help you understand what to consider when making food and dietary supplement choices.
Learning Objectives: •Understand the role that nutrition can play in optimizing the health of patients with cancer and bone marrow failure diseases
•Develop a practical approach to diet and nutritional supplementation during a hematologic illness
•Discuss foods and nutritional supplements that may have evidence for use with hematologic disorders illness, as well as those to clearly avoid
•Define a plan for incorporating sensible dietary changes to optimize health and well-being
